Abstract: To explore the clinical features of multiple system atrophy (MSA) and the significance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in diagnosis. MethodsThe clinical data of 32 cases were retrospectively analyzed. ResultsThere were obvious cerebellar symptoms in MSAc with pontine, middle cerebellar peduncles, cerebellar vermis atrophy, fourth ventricle dilatation and T2WI high intensity in the pontocerebellar and middle cerebellar peduncle regions in MRI, which were significantly in accord with the presences of cerebellar dysfunction. Parkinsonism was found in MSAp with apparent basal ganglia changes such as putamen atrophy and T2WI high intensity of the lateral margin of the putamen. But the hyperintense rim on the T2W image had no relationship to the presence of Parkinsonism. ConclusionAllaround analysis of clinical features and MRI findings may help to precisely diagnose MSA and its subtypes.
