Abstract: Objective: To explore the clinical effects of stent placement for cervical carotid stenosis. Methods: Twenty-six patients with carotid stenosis suffering from repeated transient ischemic attack(TIA) or cerebral infarction were treated with stent placement. All cases were treated with anticoagulants during the peri-operation. Results: Stents were accurately implanted. Stenosis completely disappeared in 19 patients, attenuated by more than 90% in 5 patients and 70% in 2 patients. Cerebral protection devices were used in 10 patients during the operation. No other complications recurred except for cerebral hemorrhages in 1 patient after the operation. No stenosis reoccurred during a follow-up of 3-12 months. The short-term effect was satisfactory. Conclusion: Stent placement for carotid stenosis is safe and effective and its short-term effect is satisfactory.
