Determination of the components in the Sanye Health Cigarette by HPLC

Abstract: Objective: To establish the HPLC method for determination of the major components (campherol, isorhamnetin, meletin and betaine) in the Sanye Health Cigarette. Methods: Campherol, isorhmnetin and meletin were separated by a Hypersil-C18 column (250mm×4.6mm, 5μm), and eluted by mobile phase of methanol-0.4% phosphoric acid (60∶40,V∶V) and detected at wave length of 360nm and flow rate of 1.2ml·min-1. Betaine was separated by a HypersilC18 column(250mm×4.6mm, 5μm), eluted by mobile phase of 50mM potassium dihydrogen phosphate(pH4.45, containing 0.3% sodium 1octane sulfonate) and detected at wave length of 200?nm and flow rate of 0.7ml·min-1. Results: Fairly good linearity for campherol, isorhamnetin, meletin and betaine was obtained in the ranges of 0.2-4.8μg·ml-1, 0.1-2.4μg·ml-1, 0.025-0.8μg·ml-1, and 1.0-32.0μg·ml-1. The method precisions were 1.5%, 2.1%, 1.6% and 2.2%, respectively, and their amounts (%) in the Sanye Health Cigarette were 0.00242, 0.000849, 0.000249 and 0.00636, respectively. Conclusion: The method is simple, convenient, rapid and accurate, and can be used for the determination of the major components in the Sanye Health Cigarette.
