Abstract: ObjectiveTo study the effects of 2R, 4R-APDC, a selective group Ⅱmetabotropic glutamate receptor (II mGluR) agonist, on learning and memory of rats after epilepsy. MethodsSD rats were used to reproduce lithium and pilocarpine epileptic model, then they were intracerebroventricularly(icv) given 2R, 4R-APDC or normal saline. 24 hours later, rats′ behaviors were determined by the elevated plus maze test and the Morris water maze test. ResultAfter the epileptic rats having been intra-cerebroventricularly given 2R and 4R-APDC, time spent in the open arms was shortened and number of entries to the open arms was reduced(P<0.05), the mean escape latency was shortened(P<0.01), and the ability of spatial memory and the efficiency of their search strategy were improved (P<0.05). Conclusion2R, 4R-APDC by icv can improve the epileptic rats′ ability of learning and memory.
