Abstract: To examine the expression of HLA class Ⅰ and HLA class Ⅱ on peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients with chronic hepatitis B, hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer and investigate the role of them on peripheral blood lymphocytes in host celluar immunity. Methods: The expression of HLA class Ⅰ and HLA class Ⅱ on peripheral blood lymphocytes were evaluated by flow cytometry (FCM) in 51 healthy persons, 58 patients with chronic hepatitis B, 58 patients with hepatic cirrhosis and 13 patients with hepatocellular cancer. Results: The mean fluoresecence intensity of HLA class Ⅰ on peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients with chronic hepatitis B, hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer was 335.80, 309.78 and 114.04, respectively, which had a significant difference from that in the normal control(P<0.01). With the aggravation of disease, the mean fluoresecence intensity of HLA class Ⅰ on peripheral blood lymphocytes progressively decreaced in patients with chronic hepatitis B, hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer. The expressive percentage of HLA class Ⅱ in patients with chronic hepatitis B, hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer was 38.28%, 42.21% and 52.75%, respectively, and there was a significant difference in patients with hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer from that in normal controls (P<0.01); but there was
