Abstract: To investigate the expression of nm23, CD44v6 and the microvessel density (MVD) in rectal carcinoma and analyze their relationship with prognosis. Methods: The expressions of nm23 and CD44v6 and the MVD were examined using immunohistochemical technique in 70 cases of rectal carcinoma, and the prognosis was analyzed. Results: The expression of nm23 had correlation with the depth of infiltration, the UICC staging and the lymph node metastasis. Both the expression of CD44v6 and the MVD had correlation with the histological type, the depth of infiltration, the UICC staging and the lymph node metastasis. KaplanMeier survival analysis revealed that the survival rate was correlated with the UICC staging, the lymph node metastasis and the expressions of nm23 and CD44v6 and the MVD. However, Cox proportional hazards analysis showed that only UICC staging and the expression of nm23 retained independently in prospecting prognosis. Conclusion: The UICC staging and the expression of nm23 are considered as the independent parameters in predicting the prognosis of rectal carcinoma.
