Abstract: To analyze the association of smoking and alcohol consumption with intracranial tumors. Method: The summary OR and 95% confidence interval were calculated using MantelHaenszel method. And sensitivity analyses were performed by different design type and histological categories of intracranial tumors. Results: Seven literatures(from eight studies) were found that met the protocolspecified inclusion criteria. Pooling the data from the 8 studies about association between smoking and intracranial tumors, yielded the summary OR of 1.10(0.98, 1.24), being a statistically nonsignificant result which was coordinated with the results of sensitivity analyses. Pooling the data from the 4 studies about association between alcohol consumption and intracranial tumors, yielded the summary OR of 0.76(0.62,0.93), being a statistically significant result. But it was not coordinated with the result of sensitivity analysis. Conclusion: Evidences in existence do not suggest that smoking is a risk factor of intracranial tumors. And further synthetical analyses are needed to analyze whether alcohol consumption is a protective factor of intracranial tumors.
