Growth inhibition of BIBR1532 to cancer cells with

Abstract: To study the inhibition effect of BIBR1532 on telomerase activity and cell growth of cancer cells with p53 and pRb inactivation. Methods: The cancer cells with both p53 and pRb inactivation and the telomeraseimmortalized human BJ fibroblasts with normal p53 and pRb were treated with BIBR1532, and the telomerase activity, telomere length and cell growth status were detected. Results: The cells treated with BIBR1532 exhibited diminished telomerase activity, shortened telomeres and eventual growth arrest independent of p53 and pRb status. Conclusion: Telomere shorteningmediated cell growth arrest caused by telomerase inhibition in cancer cells does not require functional p53 and pRb.
