Comparison of the therapeutic effects of single-port and two-port laparoscope for inguinal hernia in children

Abstract: Objective To compare the outcomes of single-port laparoscope(SPL)and traditional two-port laparoscope(TPL)in the treatment of inguinal hernia in children. Methods A total of 525 children with inguinal hernia during June 2010 and June 2016 were divided into single-port group(n=250)and two-port group(n=275). The average operation time, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, complications and hospitalization costs of the two groups were compared. Results No significant difference was observed between the two groups in average operation time, complications, blood loss, hospital stay and hospitalization costs. In terms of unilateral and bilateral inguinal hernia, there was no significant difference between two groups either. Conclusion Compared with traditional two-port laparoscope, single-port laparoscope is equally safe and effective in the treatment of inguinal hernia in children.
