A trend of mortality of pancreatic cancer during 1985-2004 in rural area of Zhaoyuan County

Abstract: To explore the trend of pancreatic cancer mortality based on the investigation from 1985 to 2004 in Zhaoyuan County. MethodMortality rate, constituent ratio, standardized mortality of the world population and the correlation coefficient were analyzed. ResultsFrom 1985 to 2004 the mortality rate of pancreatic cancer was 2.22/100,000, in which it was 2.86/100,000 for males and 1.58/100,000 for females. In the four periods of 1985-1989, 1990-1994, 1995-1999 and 2000-2004, mortality rates of pancreatic cancer dramatically increased, and increased by 100.59% in 2000-2004 compared with that in 1985-1989, and the standardized mortality rate was increased by 45.56%. The mortality rate of pancreatic cancer was strongly related to the mortality rate of liver cancer, but not to that of esophagus, stomach, intestine, breast and cervical cancer. ConclusionsIncidence rate of pancreatic cancer quickly increases in the rural area. Besides population aging, some unknown factors may be in function. Hepatitis virus may be associated with the incidence of pancreatic cancer.
