Abstract: To explore the security and feasibility of percutaneous transradial artery approach for percutaneous coronary interventions in the aged. Methods196 patients over 70 years old with coronary artery diseases were subjected to coronary intervention treatment through radial(n=94) and femoral arteries(n=102) between September, 2005 and February, 2007. The success rate of operation, incidence rate of entry site complications, rate of discomfort occurrence and X-ray exposure time were compared between the two groups. ResultsThere were no differences in the success rate of operation and X-ray exposure time(P>0.05), while the incidence rate of entry site complications and rate of discomfort occurrence in the radial artery group were lower than those in the femoral artery group(P<0.05). ConclusionPercutaneous transradial artery approach is secure and feasible for coronary intervention treatment in the aged and has few vascular complications.
