Abstract: To investigate the proportional changes of HBeAg negative chronic hepatitis B(CHB) and liver cirrhosis of hepatitis B (LC-B) and the HBV genotype in Shandong Province. MethodsThe clinical data of 2?561 hospitalized cases of CHB and LC-B from 1996, 2001 and 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. The HBV genotypes were determined in 220 patients with CHB or LC-B by using the nested polymerase chain reaction based on genotype specific primers. ResultsThe proportion of HBeAg-negative LC-B(50.0%) was higher than that of CHB(23.8%), P=0.000. It rose from 46.1% in 1996 to 54.4% in 2006, P=0.047. The percentages of genotype C and B/C mixed genotypes in the HBeAg negative CHB and LC-B groups were 94.7%, 5.3% and 90.0% 10.0% respectively, which were not statistically different from the percentage in the HBeAg positive group. No genotype B or other genotypes were found. ConclusionsIn Shandong Province, HBeA positive is still the predominant form of hospitalized CHB, the proportion of HBeAgnegative LCB has been recently more than 50%. Genotype C is the predominant genotype in both HBeAg negative and positive patients. No genotype B is found in HBeAg negative patients.
