Determination of serum visfatin level in type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated with coronary heart disease and its influencing factors

Abstract:

To investigate the level of plasma visfatin and its influencing factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) complicated with coronary heart disease (CHD). MethodsThe levels of visfatin and fasting insulin (FINS) in patient with T2DM, T2DM complicated with CHD and normal controls were measured by ELISA, and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) was measured by an automatic biochemistry analyzer. Body height and weight were measured to calculate body mass index(BMI) and waist to hip ratio(WHR). ResultsThe levels of serum visfatin in the two T2DM groups were higher than that in the normal control group (P<0.01). The level of visfatin in the group of T2DM complicated with CHD was higher than that in the group of T2 DM (P<0.01). Visfatin was positively correlated with HomaIR and WHR (P<0.01). The visfatin level was positively correlated with the numbers of involved coronary arteries(P<0.01). ConclusionsVisfatin plays an important role in the occurrence and development of T2DM and T2DM complicated with CHD.
