Application of diversiform periost postauricular composite flaps in mastoid obliteration operations

Abstract:

To explore the effects of diversiform periost postauricular composite flaps in the canal wall downmastoidectomy. Methods216 ears with chronic otitis media underwent a canal wall downmastoidectomy. The cavity of the mastoid process was packed with periost postauricular composite flaps.   Results92.6% of the patients were followed up from 1.5 to 4 years.216 ears (100%) were healed without discharges.126 cases receiving tympanoplasty had improved linguistic frequency auditory threshold of AC, BC and airbone gap half a year after the operations. 1 case of cholesteatoma recurred but was cured after the second operation. ConclusionPeriost postauricular composite flap is effective in reducing or eliminating the mastoid cavity in mastoid obliteration operations.
