Abstract:

o explore the role of a computerbased simulator in colonoscopy training. MethodsThirtyseven persons with no experience in colonoscopy were randomly assigned to two groups: one group underwent 10 hours of training with a computerbased simulator, and the other did not. Each trainee performed colonoscopy in 20 patients. Performance parameters evaluated cecal intubation and procedure duration. ResultsDifferences were significant for procedure duration(8.51±2.82 vs 10.15±3.22,P<0.05)and  cecal intubation(214/380 vs 141/360,P<0.05). ConclusionComputerbased simulators are effective in providing trainees with skills needed for colonoscopy.
